TESL Teacher Training in Toronto

TESOL 130 Certificate

  • 130 hour program
  • 4 weeks full-time
  • Mon–Fri, 9 am–4:00 pm (1 hour for lunch) + practicum (Fri afternoon)
  • Start Dates - 2016 - Jan 4, Mar 28, Jun 20, Sep 12, Nov 7
  • Full practicum arranged in one of the largest language schools in Canada
  • Certificate will be attained after successful completion of the practicum.

Program Description

The objective of this teacher training program is to provide the hands on experience, theory and training to enable participants to become qualified ESL/EFL teachers. New teachers may teach in Canada or overseas.

Students who successfully complete this program and have a degree may apply for TESL Canada’s Professional Standard Level One certification.

English Language Proficiency scores will now be a requirement, not only for entrance into a TESL Canada Recognized Teacher Training Program, but also during the application process for individual TESL Canada Certification.

All applicants for TESL Canada Certification, who are non-native English language speakers, are required to submit one of TESL Canada Recognized English Language Proficiency scores when applying for Certification.

Entry Requirements

  • An advanced English level(e.g. iBT 80 or IELTS 6.5).
  • An Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An undergraduate degree is recommended.
  • Some teaching experience also recommended.

Program Description

The objective of our teacher training program is to provide trainees with the skills and knowledge to become successful as an ESL/EFL teacher. It is designed to help both prospective and experienced teachers. Students who successfully complete this program may apply for TESL Canada's Professional Certification.

Program Overview

Theory and Methodology: You will learn the principles of effective teaching, develop pedagogic and practical teaching skills as well as gain reflective and hands-on teaching experience.

Lesson Planning: You will receive guidance and support to plan your lessons.

Observations: You will have opportunities to observe classes in one of the largest language schools in Canada, with experienced TESOL Canada certified teachers.

Peer teaching: You will practice teaching with their peers in a safe and comfortable learning environment.

Practicum lessons: You will teach your own classes with real students under the supervision of a sponsor teacher
